HISTORICAL RECORD — INDUSTRIAL MINERALS

Georgia Marble Calcium Carbonate

The stone drawn from the Tate quarry was close to pure white crystalline calcium carbonate. That purity, alongside the same interlocking crystal structure the company described as resisting moisture and water-borne dirt in its dimension stone, was what made an industrial minerals business possible on the same deposit that supplied the Memorial Products Plant and the Structural Products Plant. Waste and by-product stone from quarrying and fabrication was ground into a family of calcium carbonate fillers and extenders, sold into a wide range of manufacturing processes rather than into construction or memorial work.

Georgia Marble organized this activity as one of its three historical product groups — Dimension Stone, Industrial, and Consumer — alongside the stone varieties described elsewhere on this site.

Grade Families

Ground marble was historically sold across a range of named grade families — coarse, medium, fine, ultra-fine, and screened — without published mesh sizes or particle specifications on this record. These grade families were matched to end use rather than to a single formula: coarser and screened grades served applications such as stucco and cement aggregate, water filtration, and acid neutralisation, while progressively finer grades were supplied as inert fillers and extenders into adhesives and putties, asphalt compounds, carpet, caulks and sealants, cleaning compounds, cultured marble, floor, ceiling and wall tile, paint and coatings, plastics and plastic colorants, roofing tile, rubber, textured coatings and EIFS, and water treatment.

Food-Grade Production

A portion of the company's ground calcium carbonate output was historically produced to food-grade standards, meeting food chemical codex requirements and carrying Kosher certification. This food-grade material was supplied for flour enrichment, cake mixes, corn meal, and animal feed — uses distinct from the industrial fillers described above, and recorded here as a historical line of the business rather than a current one.

Mar-blend and Cultured Marble

Mar-blend was the company's blended filler product supplied to manufacturers of cultured marble. In describing this business at the time, Georgia Marble characterized itself as an early mover in fine-ground, dry-process powders for the cultured marble market — a claim the company made about itself in that period, presented here as period description rather than a claim verified independently or asserted as current.
