The Memorial Products Plant at Tate, GA was one of two dimension-stone plants historically operated by the Georgia Marble Company, alongside the Structural Products Plant at Nelson, GA. Its work was organized under the company's Memorial products line, distinct from the Structural Products Plant's architectural and building work.

The plant historically produced personal monuments and markers, cut from Georgia Marble varieties quarried in the north Georgia marble belt near Tate. Georgia Marble's named varieties — White Cherokee, Pearl Grey, Etowah Fleuri, Solar Gray and Commercial White — were each historically offered in polished, diamond satin and textured finishes, giving memorial work a range of colour, veining and surface character drawn from a single quarry source.

Mausoleums and crypt fronts

Beyond individual monuments and markers, the Memorial Products Plant historically produced private and community mausoleums and crypt fronts. A private mausoleum served a single family, while a community mausoleum housed crypts for multiple families or individuals within a shared structure — a form the plant fabricated in Georgia Marble alongside the crypt fronts that closed and faced each interment space.

This work drew on the same quarry stone and the same finish options used elsewhere in the company's memorial line, giving mausoleum and crypt work a consistent material source and appearance with the company's monuments and markers.

Decorative cemetery features

The Memorial Products Plant's scope also historically included decorative cemetery features — the ornamental and architectural elements, beyond monuments and mausoleums themselves, that furnished cemetery grounds in Georgia Marble. As with the plant's other memorial work, this drew on the company's named marble varieties and standard finishes rather than on a separate product line.

Why the stone suits memorial work

The Tate quarry's stone is close to pure white crystalline calcium carbonate. The company has long described the stone's unusually large, interlocked crystals as resisting penetration by moisture and water-borne dirt, and its purity as helping it wear evenly over time — a long-standing company description of the material, not an independently lab-verified performance claim. For monuments, markers, mausoleums and crypt fronts intended to stand outdoors for long periods, this described density and purity has been the basis of the company's case for the stone rather than a numbered specification.
