Landmarks Built in Georgia Marble
Stone quarried from the north Georgia marble belt at Tate, Georgia has gone into public monuments and buildings for more than a century. This page lists only the commissions that are independently documented beyond the company's own historical record — among them the Georgia marble Lincoln Memorial statue in Washington, DC. Each entry names the structure, its place, and what is verified about the stone used. It omits any commission, including several once claimed for the company, that could not be independently confirmed.
Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC
The seated statue of Abraham Lincoln inside the Lincoln Memorial is carved from Georgia marble. Daniel Chester French designed the figure; the Piccirilli Brothers carved it. It is the best-known landmark use of stone from the north Georgia marble belt and the reason the Georgia marble Lincoln Memorial statue is the most frequently cited example of the quarry's reach beyond the region.
Alamo Cenotaph, San Antonio, Texas
The Alamo Cenotaph in San Antonio was erected in grey Georgia marble paired with pink Texas granite. It stands as a public memorial at the Alamo site, combining the two stones in a single monument.
Buckingham Fountain, Chicago, Illinois
Buckingham Fountain in Chicago's Grant Park, completed in 1927, is constructed of Georgia pink marble. It remains one of the largest public fountains built with stone from the marble belt.
Bok Tower, Lake Wales, Florida
The carillon tower at Bok Tower Gardens combines Creole marble with pink Etowah marble. The tower is named among Georgia Marble Company's notable commissions and pairs the two stones in its facade and ornamental stonework.
Harding Memorial, Marion, Ohio
The Harding Memorial, the tomb of President Warren G. Harding in Marion, Ohio, is built with Doric columns of Georgia white marble. The colonnaded rotunda is among the memorial's defining architectural features.
National McKinley Birthplace Memorial, Niles, Ohio
The National McKinley Birthplace Memorial in Niles, Ohio, completed in 1915, is a documented Georgia Marble Company commission. The memorial complex commemorates President William McKinley in his birthplace town.
