REFERENCE — MARBLE VARIETIES
White Cherokee Marble and the Georgia Marble Varieties
This page documents five marble varieties historically and currently quarried and offered under the Georgia Marble name, including white cherokee marble, cherokee white marble, and the pink, grey, and blended varieties described below. Marble is a natural material: color and veining vary from block to block within the same variety, and any description below is a reference representation, not a guarantee of appearance in a given shipment. Rendering also varies between display devices and print. Specifiers matching an existing installation or ordering material should request current samples through the contact page rather than relying on this description alone.
Index of named varieties
| Variety | Colour & Veining | Finishes |
|---|---|---|
| White Cherokee | White to grey — Random charcoal veining; reads lighter in diamond satin or textured finish | Polished · Diamond Satin · Textured |
| Solar Gray also recorded as Solar Gray Etowah Fleuri | Light to dark grey — Swirling charcoal veins | Polished · Diamond Satin · Textured |
| Pearl Grey | Light grey — Swirling charcoal veins; subtle in diamond satin, nearly gone when textured | Polished · Diamond Satin · Textured |
| Etowah Fleuri | Light to dark pink — Swirling charcoal veins; same finish behavior as Pearl Grey | Polished · Diamond Satin · Textured |
| Commercial White | Quarry-run — a cross-section of several varieties — Wide colour and veining variation expected in panels and floors | Polished · Diamond Satin · Textured |
This table carries colour, veining and finish information only — no density, absorption, compressive-strength, or other technical-test figures are recorded in the surviving archive material for these varieties. See the contact page to request a current technical data sheet.
White Cherokee
Base color: white to grey, with random charcoal veining.
Finishes: offered historically in polished, diamond satin, and textured finish. The stone reads lighter overall in diamond satin or textured finish than in polished finish, as the veining is visually softened by the finish surface rather than removed.
Etowah Fleuri
Base color: light to dark pink, with swirling charcoal veining.
Finishes: offered historically in polished, diamond satin, and textured finish, with the same finish behavior as Pearl Grey below — the veining becomes progressively subtler from polished to diamond satin to textured.
Pearl Grey
Base color: predominantly light grey, with swirling charcoal veins.
Finishes: offered historically in polished, diamond satin, and textured finish. The veining is subtle in diamond satin finish and nearly gone when the stone is textured.
Solar Gray
Also recorded in the archive as Solar Gray Etowah Fleuri.
Base color: predominantly light to dark grey, with swirling charcoal veins.
Finishes: offered historically in polished, diamond satin, and textured finish, following the same three-finish format as the other varieties on this page.
Commercial White
Composition: quarry-run stone carrying a cross-section of several of the varieties above, rather than a single consistent base color and veining pattern.
What to expect: because it is quarry-run rather than selected, panels and floors laid in Commercial White show wider color and veining variation than the named single varieties, and this variation should be expected and planned for rather than treated as a defect.
Finishes: offered historically in polished, diamond satin, and textured finish.
Why no sample photography appears here
No photographic swatch or sample image accompanies any of the five varieties on this page. No swatch photography from the archive survived to ground an image showing actual stone color and veining, and a fabricated or stock image presented as a stone sample would mislead a specifier more than showing none at all. Anyone matching stone on an existing building, or ordering for a new one, should request a physical sample rather than rely on any photograph, including future ones added to this site.
Request literature or a physical sample
For specification literature, a physical sample of any of the five varieties above, or help matching stone on an existing building, submit a request through the contact page. Dimension-stone project inquiries can be routed the same way.
